MY REFLECTION
Kiwisport - Badminton
Badminton? Have you ever played the sport or wondered about it, well today for kiwisport Room 9 was lucky enough to have Badmington, for KIWISPORT!
I will be reflecting and talking about what we did at KIWISPORT…
Today at approximately 9.40 Room 9 had Kiwisport with Ben, who was the Badminton instructor for the next 4 weeks. At first we went through the basics, and talked about the equipment. We talked about the shuttle, and the racket. We also talked about 2 grips that we learnt about which was the 4 hand grip, and the backhand grip. He also talked about how we can remember to hold these grips.. For example we can remember to hold the 4 grip by basically imagining you're holding a frying pan, and as for the backhand grip, imagine you're shaking another person’s hand. We had Badmington in the School Hall, but then as we finished discussing the basics, we went outside for a warm up game, which was Stuck in the Mud. Ben picked 3 taggers, and if you were tagged you had to stand with your legs apart and your hands up, and in order to be free, someone had to clap in between your legs. The purpose of us learning about Badminton, is so we can be educated not only for learning new things like math and reading (subjects), but also sports.. (Physical Education). After our warm up we had to pair up, and practicing passing the shuttle at each other by using one of the grips.. The aim of this activity was basically to try your best to keep the shuttle in the air. I paired with Ana, first we decided to use the four hand grip to keep the shuttle of the ground, then we tried to use the backhand grip. The most challenging art for me in this activity was using the backhand grip t try and keep the shuttle from hitting/touching the ground. Then we played Follow the Leader, well as I like to call it.. The aim of this game was for the follower to follow the leader. For example if the leader was using backhand grip to keep the shuttle ofthe ground the follower would also use the backhand grip to keep the shuttle of the ground, and so then it would switch up, and the follower then would be the leader now. Everything was hard at first but as I used Ben’s advice I learned how to control the shuttle, and hit the shuttle with control at a sensible height rather than usually hitting the shuttle to high up and getting it stuck somewhere. Today I learnt how to hold to grips, backhand and 4 hand, Overall the most challenging part I found from this lesson was controlling the shuttle by using the backhand grip! Next week my main focus will be learning how to control the shuttle more using the backhand grip! And also focusing on the main lesson for next week. I look forward to Kiwisport (Badmington) very much next week!
