🍗Chinese Fried Chicken 🍗

TECHNOLOGY!!!

WALT: reflect on what we made at Technology at "Tamaki College".

Today, for Technology I was paired with Siale! Myself and Siale are both Year 8 students currently attending Tamaki Primary School. Siale & Myself made Chinese fried chicken! This week all the cooking equipment we needed was at least one...
  • Frying Pan
  • Tongs
  • Plate
  • Knife
We firstly had to warm up the Frying Pan, on one of the elements on the stove. We also then had to drizzle Pure Canola Oil, around and in the pan!

Our next step was  to mix the chicken with Sweet Chilly Sauce, Sesame Seeds and also Soy, Honey & Garlic Marinade!

After mixing the chicken, we would then place the chicken in the pan using the tongs to twist it from left to right, and down to up!

Once the chicken was cooked we would use a knife to cut 1 chicken on the Frying Pan, to check if the inside of the chicken is properly ready!

Then SERVING TIME!!

I really enjoyed working with Siale, because not only was able to develop new skills from the way he serves, cleans and cooks but also developing how he's able to follow the step by step method, using all the ingredients to help him out!

A challenge I found working with him was that we both did things differently! Which wasn't surprising because we all are different and unique in our own way!

Siale was a very helpful buddy I was able to turn to when stuck, and needed help! I also found that he was very helpful to do all the hard things for example holding the Frying Pan, when the Canola Cooking Oil was popping up! I also thought Siale was very helpful, when instead of doing things for me and not letting me learn for myself he choose to teach me what and how to do something when I needed to be taught, told, or needed extra help!

Please leave a comment below, with feedback on how you think I can improve, or what you think I've improved on... Also please leave blogging, cooking, and helpful reflection suggestions and feedback for me to use and folow for next time!

Many Thanks...

🍝Food Technology Reflection🍝

IALT: reflect, and explain on what happened at Food Technology!

Today at Technology it was weird, and different for everyone! The first thing Mrs Tuipulotu did was separate the two Year 7 students & Year 8 students. Both different year levels were making 2 different things. The year 8 students, which was the group I was in were making Mini Quench just like last week, but instead we were making our own pastry! We had to taste it, and see what the difference was! The year 7 students were making Pasta Salad! If you were in the year 8 group you had to find yourself a year 8 buddy, just like the year 7's! My usual buddy was Demetrius, but because he was year 7 students, I had to buddy up with Curty's. I felt excited at first because, making this with a buddy that I have never worked with, gave me the ability to develop new and different things from one another! Which is kind of the same as showing our school value AKO!

Here is the ingredients we used in order to create Mini Quench with our own pastry!

METHOD:
  • 130g plain flour
  • Pinch of salt
  • 60g butter, diced
  • 2-3 tablespoon water
  • 3 eggs
  • 150mL cream
  • 1⁄2 onion, diced finely
  • 100g grated cheese
  • 2 rashers of bacon, cooked
Now that you have viewed, and read about the ingredients you can now, read the step by step process/cycle, of using the method!

METHOD:

  1. Rub the butter into the salt and flour mixture until it resembles breadcrumbs.
  2. Using a flat bladed knife, form into a ball of pastry with the water.
  3. Cover in cling film and refrigerate for 15 minutes.
  4. Prepare the egg custard mixture by whisking eggs and cream together.
  5. Prepare the ingredients for the filling.
  6. Grease a quiche flan tin.
  7. Roll out the pastry and ease into the quiche pan.
  8. Refrigerate for 15 minutes.
  9. Line base with baking paper and fill with baking beans.
  10. Blind bake for 10 minutes.
  11. Place onions on pastry, then grated cheese, top with bacon and other ingredients.
  12. Gently pour the egg custard mixture over the filling.
Bake for 40 minutes or until golden and quiche is set.

The equipment we used in order to successfully create this were...
  • Whisk
  • 3 Bowls
  • Rolling Pin
  • Chopping Board
  • Knife
  • Baking Tin
Something I found challenging, and hard was being buddies with another person! Mainly because I am use to pairing up, and working with Demetrius, but I'm always open for new things, and new opportunities.

I enjoyed seeing how Curty's works, and also developing a new set and different set of cooking skills to use, in the kitchen next time!

Myself, & Curty's:

🍲Technology Reflection (Mini Quich)🍲

IALT: reflect on what we made at Technology

Today we had Technology, it was the same old routine but it was a little different. Instead of Miss Tuipulotu telling us to get the ingredients, in order for us to learn we would look at the step by step process of making Mini Quich, and take a guess of what cooking equipment needed.

As myself and my NEW buddy read through the process.. Oh Yeah I just forgot to mention in my reflection I had a completely different partner than last week. The reason for that is because I thought I needed to figure out what others types of talents other children have. I felt that if I had stayed with the same partner (Demetrius), I would just learn the same thing from him, so I decided to have tried something different.

Today my buddy was Daimai, we learnt a lot of different things not only from Miss Tuipulotu but also from each other... Daimai was a very entertaining partner, he made me laugh, and taught me new things in a educational way. The equipment we thought we needed to use was...
  • 1 Bowl (Large)
  • Whisk
  • Dessert
  • 1 Metric Measuring Cup
  • 12 piece Muffin Tray
  • 2 Different Chopping Board (Meat, & Pastry
  • KNIFE
Luckily myself, and Daimai got all the equipment correct. No only did we guess, but we also thought about the step by step process, and what would be the best equipment to suit it.

Me & Daimai

Myself, and Daimai looked at the steps of making a Mini Quich, the steps that were on the board were..
  1. Crack 2 eggs into one bowl
  2. Dice 1/2 of a Onion & 2 slices of Ham
  3. Put in 50 grams of cheese into the bowl with the 2 eggs
  4. Combine all ingredients and mix fairly
  5. Spray Muffin Tin, with Canola Cooking Spray
  6. Scoop one spoon full of all ingredients into 1 muffin tray each
  7. Bake to 180c, and time 15 minutes
Daimai, and I tried our best follow the structure of the recipe, and our Mini Quiche turned out look like this...

Something I look forward to doing next time is working with different people, to see new and other ways to complete things.. Not only for technology but also for other things, outside of school.. FOr example, Home, & Church.

Another thing, that I would like to work on achieving next week, is finding what other small, healthy meals I can make... at home or church or for important occasions.

🍲Technology Reflection🍲

IALT: reflect on Technology
On Thursday at Technology, for Cooking class we made Potato Salad, and Chicken Kebab. When we walked into the Cooking Room, and straight away put all our books, or netbooks away.. and put on our aprons. Walking out, On the board all the steps are done, with the ingredients, and were off cooking. Here are the instructions..

  • Slice all the potatoes ( 12 pieces per potato)
  • Put in a Hot Pot, With 2 cups of water
  • Dice the Spring Onion, & Bacon
  • Tip the potatoes into a Colander and let it cool down
  • Dice the chicken
  • When the Kebab sticks
  • Dip the chicken into the dressing (Sauce)
  • Cook in OVEN on Flat Baking Tin For (15 Minutes)
Myself and my cooking buddy demetrius did our best to follow all instructions, then we had to combine the spring onions, and ham with the potatoes and mix then separate into how ever many people you have to feed, and move on to the chicken kebab. Once 15 minutes was up we would bring the chicken kebab, out with the chicken dressing or sauce. Then we would eat.

Our Potato Salad & Chicken Kebab

After eating a bit of Potato Salad, and Chicken Kebab, my mouth felt quite weird, and I felt as if a fire, was starting up inside my throat. I also felt like mosquito bites were trying to chew threw the inside of my neck. I told the cooking teacher about it, and after a few minutes I realised it was an allergic reaction. I was allergic to the dressing that was out on the chicken kebab, because peanuts were put inside it. We called the ambulance, and my Mum.

They both arrived and I was straight away sent and treated at the hospital. They let me rest, gave me prescription for medicine.. and feed me with healthy fruits, sandwiches and also juice or water. After a few hours I was discharged, and the doctor just told me to be more careful with the foods I choose to eat!

Thursday was a bit of a challenge for me, from school to Tamaki College, and from Tamaki College to the Hospital. I have know realised that I need to be more careful with the foods I choose to eat, and also checking on the ingredients before eating it.

🍲Food Technology Reflection🍲

I am learning to reflect on Technology

Food Technology @ Tamaki College

Image

Today, we had our 2nd Technology lesson. This lesson in cooking class was all about following the ingredients and measurements without mostly using Miss Tuipulotu help. Today we made Cinnamon and Jam Muffin which included the ingredients and measurements of...

  • 1 cup of plain flour,
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1/2 cups of sugar
  • 1 tsp of baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon of Jam
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 25 Grams of Butter
We had to try our best to follow the step by step process of making 12 different Cinnamon and Jam Muffin. The most challenging part I found about this cooking session was when, we had to try following the process of creating this without using some of Miss Tuipulotu help! We had to use different sorts of equipment like...
  1. Whisk
  2. Plastic Scrapper
  3. Measuring Cups
  4. Measuring Spoons
  5. Teaspoons
  6. Dessert Spoons
  7. Metric Cups
  8. 1 Medium Bowl/ 1 Large Bowl
The one thing I found interesting and I looked forward to in the lesson was putting our trays in the oven. We were given 2 different things to do, in each group there were 2 people, and 1 person would do the dry ingredients and wet ingredients.. I myself choose to do the Dry ingredient while my partner/buddy Demetrius worked on the wet ingredients. So for wet and dry ingredients, we used 2 different bowls one large one and one medium sized one. After it was done we had to melt the butter using the microwave, and put everything together in the bigger bowl. After that we would mix and mix and then bring the muffin trays, and insert everything getting, it prepared for cook off! On top of each Cinnamon and Jam Muffin, would be jam in the centre of it all and once that was complete we would then cover it up with more of the dry and wet ingredients mixed and combined. Then BABOOM... in the oven it goes.

While that cooking we had to clean out tables and wash our dishes then putting everything away, in exactly where it was before. 15 minutes later the oven timer goes off and its ready to be put out.. We then put the toppings of cinnamon and brown sugar together on it. In order to get the topping, you had to get one tablespoon, of brown sugar and cinnamon, and mix then sprinkling it on the top of Cinnamon and Jam muffin.

FINISHING TOUCH:

Please leave a comment below, and eave a comment about how you think myself and Demetrius Cinnamon and Jam Muffin!

In the next lesson I would like to try and reach the goal of putting the right measurements of ingredients, in the next food we will be making next week!

Technology Reflection

"Technology Reflection"

WALT: reflect on Technology...!!
Today for Technology I was in Mr Grundy's Class, which was "Hard Materials"! We had to finish off the Google Document Sent, which we had to complete in order to take our project home, once finished! Today I was able to decide on my "Final Design", I am now focused on making a Cross!

The reason for me deciding on this creation, is to express the love I have towards God, and also the commitment I put in, towards going to Church! I hope and wish to finish this "Pewter Necklace", before the lessons with "Mr Grundy" (Hard Materials Teacher) ends.

Thank you for viewing, and if you have any feedback towards my learning, please leave a comment below!

Technology Reflection!

I am learning to reflect on Technology at Tamaki College...

Today was our 2nd week with our "New" Technology groups.  For my group, we are in "Hard Materials". For "Hard Materials" we are completing a "Pewter Necklace"! At first we had to complete a Document, which states who the "Necklace" would be for, and also Why?! We then had to research "Silhouettes", and insert with it images of what the 4 options you put in, with 4 things they like. I've decided to create a "Pewter Necklace" for myself, and it will be carved as an "Music Note". The music note, would symbolise the love, talent and passion I have.. for music itself.  Mr Grundy (Hard Materials Teacher) showed us the process of just the first part! I found finding what I was going to make it carved as very hard, because I had for different options..
  • My Mother
  • My Father
  • Myself
  • My 2nd Oldest Brother
I ended up deciding to make the "Pewter Necklace" for myself! This was our last Technology week, for the rest of Term 3...

Here are some images of "Pewter Necklace"...
