Kiwisport - Reflection

IALT: talk about what I learnt during Kiwisport.

With Kiwisport today it was all about Long Jump. We started off with a new  warm-up game. We were divided into 4 teams, and each team has their own corner. The aim of the game would be 2 teams would compete against each other... and we would hop on each 'DOT' before meeting someone and playing 'paper, scissors, rock' to see who is eliminated from the game, and the player moving onto the next round.

What I liked about this warm up, was people were being competitive, but at the same sensible. No one was hurt, and everyone had a good time.

If I were to re-do this warm up game, personally I would participate more... and enjoy the game for itself.

With practicing the Long Jump activity. We started off jumping individually with stand long jumps, of with our hands behind our backs... basically anything Coach Allan told us to do. Anyways, with the next activity in relation to the Long Jump activity we would find a group of 4 or 5 people, to start off the group competitions.I was put with..

  • Ana
  • Falakiko
  • Sene
That was our group of 4. What we had to was jump of eachothers last landing... and with using a 'dot' we would mark our landings. In the end we would review the winning team and give them victory.

Next time what I wish to achieve in the future is for me to participate and involve others. I also wish to strengthen my skill in jumping further.

My highlight of today's Kiwisport was actually giving a majority of the activities a go!

What are your thoughts?

Kiwisport (Run, Jump, Throw)

IALT: gain more knowledge on holding and throwing a shotput.

Yet again another day of Kiwi sports, and learning new things. Our session was simple.. we started of as always with a warm-up game, moving on to shot put activites with 2-3 people per group... then individually throwing a shotput.

Dodge ball Game - Warm Up

Our warm up game was Dodge ball. But Coach Allan, added a bit of a twist to it. Instead of being eliminated if the ball hit you, or if you tried to catch it and it dropped.. instead of being put out of the whole game you would have to join the oppsite team and then play for them.

During our warm-up I think the hardest part for the team I was in to throw the ball strongly. As it was a light ball and because f the little wind sometimes when the ball was thrown it would move a little more to the left or right then we were aiming for.

Group Shot Put Practice

Our next task was to form a group of 3 people, position ourselves in a triangle and throw the ball like a shot put to one another. I was in a group of Ana, and Akanesi. When we formed ourselves in a triangle we were giving each other tips on where the Shot Put should be placed, how we should stand, and how to throw the ball.

Personally, during this game/activity it was fun to see my peers were helping me out, and giving me tips on how the ball could move further and how I could improve better.

The Shot Put COMP!

Then we were to form ourselves in pairs of 2, line up against a line marked onto the field and use the technique, strength, and distance practice within the groups of 3 on the field. Some threw together and some threw at different individual shots. Coach Allan said himself he was looking for... the technique in a throw other than just the distance. With the first round Coach Allan crowned me as being the winner. He complimented the technique I used in my throw, and the distance it went. Which made me really feel good about myself.

Overall,

What I found the most fun was the fact I was able to have the growth mindset I had, and I was also having a good time, in learning something and particapating.

The most challenging part, for me was throwing the shot put. But next time my steps are for me to use the feedback and feedforward given by my peers and coach Allan to improve more on throwing shot puts further in the future.

How do you think I could improve throwing a shot put?

Muchly Appreciated.

Kiwisport - Run, Jump, Throw

IALT: develop and reflect on the skills taught to me during the time we had at Kiwisport.

It's no longer dance, but now Run, Jump, Throw. With our currently passed session we worked towards strategy in running, speed and ability, and the way or the secret to speed.

But anyways, first things first. We always have to 'warm up'. We played a game of capture the flag. But there was a bit of a twist. Instead of capturing the flag, we would be divided into 2 equal, but different teams. With each team is given 2x hula hoops, and in those hula hoops are 5x balls. Adding to 10 balls, and 2 hoops in each team. We would pick 2 taggers who would be given a 'swimming noodle'. Then while we would run to the oppsite team, strategizing a way to 'steal' they're balls from there hoops, if they had hit us with the 'noodle' before we got a run we would have to put it back and try again. But the taggers, couldn't move! They had to stay in that one spot. I found this activity entertaining! We all had fun, no one was hurt (well, purposely, No), and we were able to maintain matureness.

Next we were to line up along the yellow line, on the top courts. We talked about and tried to spot the key things that are shown when Usain Bolt (the fastest man in the world) runs.

When Usain Bolt runs you can identify..
  • High Kness
  • But Kicks
  • Lower Head
  • Hands are always active
  • Cheek to cheek (face cheek - bum cheek)

After explaining and going through what Usain Bolt does.. we tried to put our thoughts and identification into action. By trying those things, and being aware of things like for example..
  • Is our speed increasing?
  • How does it help?
Our task was to do those things (Usain Bolt does), to about 1 quarter of the top court (portrait).

I found that it did work, and it did increase my speed, but it also increased my ability to become drained out, or in other word(s) tired,

Our next task... was simple. 5 groups, 1 ball per group, 1 runner, 5 passees, 6-8 group members (depending on the total amount(. The aim of the game? Beat the ball to the finish line. When the whistle blow you run, but when your running your team (in a line), is passing the ball down in a line. The purpose was for the team to try and pass the ball to the finial team player before the runner reaches the finish line. When the runner finishes.. the line moves forward and the first thrower become the runner, and the 2nd ball passer become the first ball passer, so on..

With the team I was associated with involved...
  • Ana
  • Sene
  • Metui
  • Demetrius
  • Rosemary
  • Akanesi
Some of us cheated, some of aware of the whistle blowing, but we got though it.

What I found the most challenging? That would have to passing the ball, and catching it in time before the runner beats us. Mainly because.. some of the boys in our team was so focused on winning, it might have been possible they could have skipper a team of member (or 2) or threw the ball so hard and seriously, it went flying the oppsite way.

What do we/I need to work on next time? Being aware of the other people in our team, and not always focusing on winning, but having a good time!

My favouirte part? Hmmm??!! That would have to be the last activity. Beat the ball. It was fun energetic, and though we had rough times during the activity we were able to at the same develop some team building skills.

Now, I'm looking for feedback from you!!

Please do leave a comment down below and I look forward to seeing all your feedback, feedforward, suggestions, advice, and tips based on my blog/blogpost.

Thank you.
