Reading - Comprehension Test

IALT: reflect on the skills I used and developed during this reading test.

Yet again a way to start a morning.. with a reading comprehension test.Usually with these types of test we would individually meet up with the teacher, and she would ask us the questions.

Before Kiwisport, and currently now (after Kiwisport) our class have been completing, or in other words 'finishing up' on our reading test. Today it was a bit different, instead of e-asttle online, we were each given an individual paper, some were the same as others while others were different.. This test was all about, reading, reading inbetween the lines, and answering the questions provided. The text given to myself was all about navigation, tracing, and your sense.I seated myself beside Ana. I found it easy for us to work without being distracted, until after Kiwisport. I think the reason for this was because we were pumped from being outdoors (Kiwisports), and distracted and hyped. Now for the 'to be honest' during the test, and the questions and answers.

Personally, it was a easy read and answer before Kiwisport, but after as I came upon finishing the test, I was distracted, off track, and my mind was on something else. Which was a weakness. 

In setting a goal for myself next time, I wish to avoid all distractions and putting my education before any other. 

What I found interesting, or my likes during this text, the fact of me finding new information within the lines between the text, and also with me having the ability to use skills developed during our reading time, with our groups, and teacher.

Something I want to achieve in relation to my reading in the future is the ability to.. stay on track, and keep my mind on the main focus. It is also to skim and scan in identifying new information, and finding those 'key', 'relevant' things in the text that will help to inform my reader more.

Royal Baby On The Way...

So it's been a while since I've blogged and reflected on articles lately.. but as I thought about what more I wanted to know I decided to read up on some articles, reflect on my thoughts, and share it with my blog viewers, and readers.

IALT: reflect on a article I read about how a new royal baby is on the way!

Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge have announced that they are expecting their third child! Do you believe it? The Buckingham Palace told everyone the news on Monday morning, adding on to that the Queen is “delighted”. With the rules in place, William and Kate’s third child will become the fifth person in line to the throne. The new child will be behind their granddad, Prince Charles, dad, Prince William, and also the siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte. If it is a boy, Charlotte will be the first girl to be ahead of their brother in the line to the throne. Which would be because of new rules that started in 2015. The news marks a big week for Kensington Palace. Their Four-year-old Prince George is due to start school on Thursday. 

I am really looking forward to hearing on whether this baby is a boy or a girl. This will not only add to the royal family, but as they get older they shall continue to spread the royalty.

📚 Integrated Studies - Hobbies 📚

WALT : Gather, Evaluate and Synthesise information

With reading, well not really but integrated studies, we always given an text to read and a task to complete. With the task given I've only completed part of the task so with the bits of the task I completed, I created another DLO using Google Presentations - Google Drive Application. Anwyays,

With this task I basically had to pick my top 2 of my top hobbies and explain how I think I might be able to develop more with this hobby in my spare time.

My biggest challenge with this task?, Well it was basically to find the connection the article and the task had to each other.. but as I complete the whole task given I will then explain my viewpoint or perspective on the connections or relations the article and the task.

With me, what more do I want from this task that could affect my future?... To understand the connections and relations to the task I'm completing. And to be able to honestly answer any question that comes around in relation to the text given... proving I have successfully read and understood the text provided for myself to read and also the task given for myself and my group to complete.

📸 Interview - Reading 📸

WALT: Gather, Evaluate and Synthesise information.

In creating a Google Presentation came read an article, trying to achieve my success criteria, and interviewing role models. I asked 3 different questions and got 3 different answers. I interviewed a senior teacher from upstairs. Miss Morrison, which is a teacher to the year 5 and 6 and is currently teaching in room 8.

One thing I liked about completing this task was not only getting answers to my questions, but also learning more about the teachers in our school.

One thing I think I should work on is to... ask deeper questions that could lead into new areas of the topic.

I would like to focus on not careers and how, but dreams and why? In my beliefs I think that this will help for me to think about more.



My next steps in my learning is for me to ask more people around the school. Maybe people I don't know a lot about. For example cleaners, or teacher aides.

⬆️Pay It Forward - Q&A ⬆️

IALT: create a DLO of answers to the questions given based on a video we watched.

A few days ago, as a class we watched a video all about paying it forward. We were given 5 questions to answer after watching the video.

Our task was to create a DLO which I have completed using Google Drawings, to show my answers to the questions give by our class teacher.

What I'm hoping for? Is for people to contribute to making a change in order for our community to become a safer and better place. 

If I were to identify the most difficult part of this task it would be, deeply thinking about how the video can affect me.

But then again, what I found enjoyable throughout completing this task it would have to be realising how doing something little, can contribute a huge change to the community, environment, and a change to the world we live in.

🔍 Point Of View Chart - Reading 🔍

WALA: expressing our point of view on the article we read.

So with the article we were given I believe that the main point was to give us all that thinking BUZZ. In my eyes it helped for me to realise if I need or want a new hobby?, If anything's stopping me?, and lastly how it could affect my everyday life?

As I read through the article a lot of new thoughts occurred to my head. I began to deeply think about me, my hobbies, and my future goals/dreams. 

If your a girl or a human being like me you don't have much interests, or hobbies to look forward to in life. It's basically the same thing, which for me is MUSIC/SINGING, I have had a passion for music since early ages of my life. Growing up as a church girl, and listening to hymns, and songs made me fall in love with the gift I hadn't discovered god gave me... a voice to sing. I used my voice to share my feelings, emotions, and thoughts with others. Singing is a unique and different way to share which is why I choose to treasure it, and keep it as something special to me.

I then created a DLO which was done on the Google Drive Application - Google Drawing in order to show what my view point(s) are.

My goal for next time? Investigate deeper.. by going around the school and asking teachers questions in relation of course to this learning journey.

The most enjoyable part?, Well in speaking my mind it would have to be getting that real WAKE UP call, in order to get your mind thinking about your future.

❔Useful OR Useless Hobbies? ❔

IALT: identify the main points in the article.

This was our reading task. To read an article.. answer a few questions, and to also put it into entertaining form for our viewers, or audience members to view.

What is your hobby? And will it ever get you somewhere in life? Hmm? I wonder what the different types of hobbies are that people have! For Term 3 our inquiry topic is hobbies! Heaps and heaps of hobbies. So after reading an article around the area's of different types of hobbies I was then given a task to explain what it means using questions given. (Why, Where, Who, and How?) So instead of just answering each question individually I decided to create a form of Google Drawings to answer all the questions in one. As you read this DLO you will find answers to all the questions given. For example you will find that I have answered what I think the main point(s) are from the article, and also how it relates to me?

The most difficult  part of this task I found that was struggle ws finding a way to put those one word questions (Why, How..) into an actual question with several words. For example instead of Why, it would be why do we need a useful hobby? Or instead of How? It would be how do we find a useful hobby?  The most enjoyable part of this task for me was putting this all into one and all into form. 

Next time I hope to improve on relating it more to myself. Putting my thoughts into action and perspective (if possible).

🛩️ The Ultimate Paper Plane Design 🛩️

IALT: read about more in relation to artists, and planes.

An amazing artist by the name of Luca Laconi - Stewart has humbly taken a paper plane to a whole new level! Just by using a bit of paper than has been consistently folded up a few times she was able to design an amazing artwork worth of old papers. Luca has spent several years on working on this design, and has worked up to several years in completing this design to perfection. With her airplane he had designed she modeled the seats, engines, moving land gear and other parts of this airplane. They say in doing this it has took up 9 years of her life so far. He then choose to devote an entire summer just to complete the seats spending 20 minutes on each for an economy seat, for many hours for business and first class. From there to then completing them with tray tables and entertainment systems. They say the only thing she needs to work on is the wings, which is what she is currently in the process of creating. His airplane looks like this....

Sadly that was the only image uploaded for us to view but I look forward in seeing his design as it is completely, successfully finished and accomplished.

This amazing artists has taken papers, and folding to a whole new level. But now that I have read and been engaged in, my next step is to research more, ask more, and find more answers! I want to be able to feel as if I am this artists in finding these answers!

My biggest challenge was trying to research and get a hold of more images of the plane for my audience, and viewers to view. And I have been able to do that!
