➗ Dicey Games ➗

IALT: reflect on completing the Dicey game!

Yesterday, our maths group "Number Ninja's" was given a task to play in a group of 2-3 people. The game was called "Dicey Games". We had to pair up with either 2 or 3 people, per group! We would have 4 dice and with the 4 dice we would have to roll all those dice. We had to make a 3 digit number with 3 of the dice which we rolled, for example 6, 3, & 2! The number would be 632, and the last number left out you would have to multiply it by! For example if there was 1 number left, which was 3 you would have to multiply 632 by 3, which is 1896 according to my calculations. I played this game with one of my peers in the same maths group as me (Number Ninjas), which was Rosemary.

One reason why I choose to work with Rosemary, was because that I've never worked with, and because she struggles with english, because it is not her first language, I thought it could be a good nice, and new oppurtunity of me helping her with her english for Maths!

At first it was hard for the both of us to understand each other, and also understand the different strategies we used in order to solve the problem from the numbers the dice gave you. I thought working with Rosemary, would help for me to develop, and learn new things! Maybe, for example if she solved her dice numbers differently, Maybe I could use it to help me improve more on using new, faster and easier strategies of maths. Some numbers we had to multiply together were,
  • 543 x 6
  • 213 x 3
  • 643 x 2

And much, much more! We helped each other work through some problems, or maths equations we found hard to solve. At some stages we just gave up, but then we would always hit and strike back.

I liked working with Rosemary, because she taught me how to use different strategies for different amount of numbers..

I look forward to seeing her achievement related to Maths, in the further!

Have you ever played a game like this?

IALT: reflect on what we did for Maths

For Maths we found out what groups we were in, and Who we were in them with! There were 3 different groups. Each group had different amounts of people. I was in Group 3 with my peers, and classmates....

  • Rosemary
  • Leilani
  • Demetrius
  • Myself (Losana)
In each group, as team we had to come up with a Maths group name. Heaps of idea's passed out group but to all of us only one name stood out.

Everyone was given a opportunity to announce what their groups Maths name was.. The name we found were very entertaining, and interesting..
  1. Group 1's Name - Addition
  2. Group 2's Name - Islander Maths
  3. Group 3's Name (My Group) - NUMBER NINJA'S

At the end of this Maths lesson everyone knew each other, and one another's group name. Because we still 15 minutes before lunch time, we were put into 2 lines, and 1 person from each line, would compete with one another to find out how well they either know there, place value, addition, subtraction, or division. We even went up to Fractions! I found this activity very competitive everyone at least had to have at least 1 turn each. The person I competed with was Ana, the question we were given was 9 x 5, and the first person to answer the question wins a point for their team. I was in Team A, and the other team was TEAM B. At the end of my quiz I won knowing that the answer was 45. At the end of the whole game Team A had 7 points, and Team B had 4 points, meaning we had WON! After that we had 5 more minutes left using that to practice our place value. By this I mean we were given a number to figure out how to pronounce.

One thing I enjoyed with maths was when we had to figure out what our Maths Group, name was, it was very entertaining to look around and be surrounded with participating and contributing faces. What I found challenging was when we had to compete with one another!
